Online Dating as a Pathway to Marriage and Its Societal Implications

Abstract:

This study aims to explore online dating as an entry point to marriage and its impact on society, in light of the increasing use of the internet and social media applications among young people the study adopted the descriptive method through the use of a questionnaire that was distributed to a sample of university-educated youth, in order to investigate their opinions and experiences regarding the idea of marriage through the internet. The findings revealed that a proportion of young people view online dating as a modern tool that can expand the circle of choice and help overcome social obstacles associated with traditional marriage, while also providing an opportunity for communication and dialogue before direct meetings. On the other hand, some respondents expressed concerns about this approach, considering the risks of deception, lack of seriousness, and weak family and supervision. One of the most important results of the study that success of online dating as a pathway to marriage depends on the presence of ethical and legal regulations that ensure honesty and seriousness in building relationships. the study also found a growing awareness among young people of the importance of balancing openness to modern means with the preservation of values and traditions that ensure stability.
