International Pressure Strategies: Between Economic Sanctions and the Use of Force to Achieve International Peace and Security

Abstract:

This study examines international pressure strategies represented by economic sanctions and the use of force as two means of achieving international peace and security. It focuses on clarifying the legal concepts of economic sanctions and the use of force, as well as the legal framework governing them within international law and the United Nations Charter. The study also reviews forms of international pressure as alternatives to war, such as trade embargoes and asset freezes, alongside the use of force in cases permitted under international law. In addition, it highlights their humanitarian and political impacts, including harm to populations and the escalation of international tensions. The study concludes that international pressure strategies may serve as effective tools for maintaining international peace and security if applied in accordance with international law; however, excessive or unlawful use may lead to negative consequences affecting peoples and global stability.
