The relationship between physical fitness level and academic performance
The study aims
to determine the nature of the relationship between physical fitness and
academic performance among students at the College of Physical Education and
Sports Sciences at Al-Jafara University. It also seeks to evaluate students'
physical fitness and academic performance and identify the correlation between
them. The study relied on a descriptive correlational approach. The sample
consisted of 35 male students, intentionally selected from the second-year
students at the college for the academic year. The results showed a very strong,
positive, and statistically significant correlation between physical fitness
and academic performance. It also indicated that college students enjoy high
levels of physical fitness and academic performance. The results did not reveal
any statistically significant differences in physical fitness or academic
performance attributable to the variable of academic year. The study recommends
emphasizing the importance of exercising as an essential part of the
educational process and developing guidance programs to help students achieve a
balance between study and training requirements. It also recommends conducting
periodic assessments of physical fitness levels and linking them to academic
achievement, and encouraging further future research in this area.
